Usui Reiki Ryōhō (臼井靈氣療法) is a traditional Japanese healing art founded in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui. The word Reiki translates as “universal life energy,” while Ryōhō means “healing method” or “therapy.” Together, the phrase can be understood as “Usui’s method of healing with universal energy.”
At its heart, Reiki is a gentle yet powerful system for restoring harmony to the body, mind, and spirit. It is not a belief system, nor does it require effort from the client. Instead, Reiki is a natural process that works to encourage balance, release tension, and activate the body’s own innate ability to heal.
Each Reiki session is a unique experience, and clients often describe a sense of peace and renewal afterwards. Some of the commonly reported benefits include:
Profound relaxation – helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and the effects of daily life.
Emotional balance – supporting calmness, resilience, and a deeper sense of inner harmony.
Restorative sleep – many clients find their sleep patterns improve following treatment.
Relief from pain and discomfort – Reiki may help ease chronic conditions, fatigue, and tension in the body.
Mental clarity – creating a sense of focus, perspective, and calm awareness.
Spiritual connection – fostering a greater sense of wholeness and alignment.
Reiki is safe, non-invasive, and works alongside conventional or complementary therapies. It is suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds.
A Reiki treatment takes place in a quiet, relaxing environment. You remain fully clothed, lying comfortably on a treatment couch or seated in a chair. The practitioner will place their hands lightly on or just above specific areas of the body in a series of positions.
The experience is deeply calming. Some clients feel warmth, tingling, or a gentle flow of energy. Others simply enter a state of deep relaxation. There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki—the energy works according to each individual’s needs.
Choosing Reiki is choosing time for yourself—time to rest, heal, and return to balance. Whether you are new to Reiki or continuing your journey, Usui Reiki Ryōhō offers a safe, nurturing space where your whole being is supported.
